A Job Fair for Parents Who Owe Child Support
Tuesday / May 18, 2010
A different approach to child support enforcement - help out-of-work parents who owe child support find a job.
From the Pottstown, PA Herald:
Job Fair for Parents Who Owe Child Support
Montgomery County Domestic Relations and EDSI, a workforce development firm, have partnered together to offer a job fair for unemployed or under-employed parents who owe child support in the County.
This is the first job fair, dubbed “Opportunity Knocks”, organized by the Domestic Relations office for its clients. Parents who owe support and are seeking better employment opportunities are also welcome to attend.
EDSI has recruited a number of leading employers in the County — including local newspapers, SEPTA and the Montgomery County Community College — to participate in this free event.
Employers will provide job seekers information and screen candidates for current or potential upcoming employment opportunities.
“Opportunity Knocks” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19th, in the Domestic Relations Office on the ground floor of One Montgomery Plaza, 425 Swede Street, Norristown.
This event not only helps individuals gain employment so that they can help earn money for the children of Montgomery County. It is also “Montgomery County helping Montgomery County” and seeks to promote local businesses while meeting their potential employment needs.
“The present economic situation has had an affect on many non-custodial parents’ ability to provide for their children and we want to try and help,” said Mike Rau, Assistant Director of Case Management for Domestic Relations.
“These people aren’t dead beat but some are dead broke and need assistance. The ultimate result we expect is that the children will receive the child support they depend upon,” Rau said.
For over 30 years, EDSI has strived to see through [our client’s] eyes, understand their needs and deliver more than they expect. That is exactly what we will do when “Opportunity Knocks.” Will you answer?
